2014, as with any beginning of the year, also marks a time when we’re transitioning into new product lines that will help your business or organization be more secure and efficient. Spotted so far: New badge / card printers with more encoding options, faster print speeds, improved print quality, and even a laminator that heats up in 8 seconds and cools down just as fast; software for Badging, Visitor Management, label printing, and asset tracking and many with Cloud options that will allow you to manage things from any computer and most mobile devices.
What other advancements are there? Cards have become quite sophisticated. Many of you use Proximity Integrated Circuit (Prox or Proximity) cards because they just have to be in the proximity of the reader to work. There are also RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards that can be read from a further distance, and UHF (Ultra High Frequency) cards that could be read from up to 50 feet away! Whether it is MIFARE, iClass, DESfire, RFID, UHF, Standard 26 bit Prox or any of the many bit formats out there, or even a blank plastic card, encoding and films can turn your cards from “meh” to “marvelous”.
